The Total Family Experience – Over 5 years ago I moved dojos to allow my daughter and son (then aged 9 and 7) to start training in karate with me. Under the experienced and expert instruction of Senseis Phil and Mark, we have all progressed enormously and gained black belts. Our achievement together has been immensely rewarding but, without question, the stand out experience has been the journey itself. Make no mistake – this is real karate for self defence, fitness and personal development. However the Senseis’ cater for all ages and experience levels. If you’re thinking of giving karate a go as an adult, a child or a family then the Wigan Goju Ryu Karate Club is your ideal destination.

I started at this club when I was 5 years old and have carried on attending until my work dragged me away from Wigan. However, I always try and find the time to attend when I’m back because it’s a great club to go to and I thoroughly enjoy training here.  Not only are the sensei’s (teachers) friendly but everyone at the club is welcoming and I have made firm friends with them all. Everyone here invests their time and effort to not only make you a better Karate Cadet but to make you a more confident and well-rounded individual. Also, participating in Karate is a brilliant way to get your exercise in whilst learning something new.

The Club is great for families. I joined 14 years ago with my two young sons. On Tuesdays there is an adult class and a totally separate class for youngsters which is run at the same time. Everyone is treated as an individual and can develop at their own pace in a safe and inclusive environment. The Club offers a wonderful opportunity to gain skills in the martial arts and self-defence  in a non-competitive but extremely effective manner.
